Root Music is working with band on the Wall to produce a special regional networking meeting for jazz promoters, producers, performers and activists.

Speakers include:

Justin McKenzie – Artistic Director/CEO, Jazz Re:Freshed
Jazz Re:Freshed is at the heart of London’s current jazz explosion. It has grown from delivering a nightly event in Notting Hill to organising a yearly festival, developing new artists, creating a record label and much more. Justin will tell us how it happened.

Janine Irons MBE FRSA – Co-Founder and Chief Executive, Tomorrow’s Warriors
Winners of the 2017 Parliamentary Jazz Award for Education, Tomorrow’s Warriors are an internationally-renowned creative production and talent development agency.

Paul Bradshaw – Founder, Straight no Chaser
As his legendary and influential publication reaches its 100 edition, Paul will share the Chaser story.

Kevin Appleby – Strategic and Creative Lead, Jazz South
Following a substantial grant award from Arts Council England, the project is about to launch a talent and leadership programme and a multi-layered programme of projects.

Lexy Movaridi – Booking Agent, Diplomats of Sound
Lexy is an agent with Diplomats of Sound, with a roster including Zara McFarlane, Ashley Henry, and Anthony Joseph.

Mike Chadwick – Jazz promoter and International Band Manager, Snarky Puppy and David Crosby
Hugely experienced promoter and artist manager, Mike will be on hand to offer one-to-one advice surgeries.

Gavin Sharp – CEO, Band on the Wall
Gavin has been at the helm of the multi award-winning venue and promoter Band on the Wall for a decade.

Jeremy Davies – Root Music
An experienced jazz promoter and fundraiser, Jeremy will discuss EU funding and the NIMPE Music Factory.

John Fraser – Researcher
John Fraser has worked in industry as a researcher and analyst for more than 20 years and his current role as a Senior Consultant has seen him work with some of the world’s largest blue-chip companies. John has a keen interest in the arts outside work; he has been conducting research into jazz audiences for Band on the Wall, which he will present during this session.

David Murray and Saul Williams
In advance of what promises to be a stunning show at Band on the Wall, David and Saul will talk about their work.

Concert: David Murray and Saul Williams, 7.30pm
Few musicians in jazz history have proven more vigorously productive than David Murray. With his band, comprised of drummer Nasheet Waits, pianist Jason Moran and Orrin Evans, bassist Jaribu Shahid, he invites the leading voice on the spoken-word scene. Together, they deliver an impassioned vibration, enlightened by the abrasive words of Saul Williams.
